I am new on here. I am living in London, but I am originally from Donegal. I am trying to trace my ancestors back to Scotland. My father always told the story that our ancestors were horse thieves and had to take part in the Ulster Plantation or face hanging in Scotland. I came across the story of the Theft of Ane Black Horse and the ensuing battle where the Johnstones defeated the Maxwells. Does anybody have any more information on this? I believe the battle took place in 1593 and the defeat of Ulster and the subsequent Plantation took place shortly after that.
It would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Thomas
