Hello Dalrymple's et al,

I found this site and thought it was cool. I've always been facinated with my ancestry and history, and thought I might learn where to find more interesting reading. My mom was a Dalrymple and was proud of the little bit she knew about her Dalrymple lineage. As time passed, research and information became easier to obtain with computers and internet.

She sat me down as a little boy and asked me to write down the names of our forefathers as she had, so that the information could be passed on as it has for many generations. The paper she pulled out of her wallet was so fragile because it had been tucked away so many years. The ink was faded and the creases on the folds were tearing, but she managed to gingerly unfold to study the names on the list. She helped me write down the names on my own list so I could relay the information to the next generation. She did not have all the names in succession, but the last one on her list was James Dalrymple, 1st Viscount Stair, who was a jurist, author, and wrote many of the first laws of Scotland. From my generarion, he was Grandfather #9, going back in time. She also told me that before James Dalrymple there were several forefathers that were ruling Kings in Scottish history. Without an internet in the early years of the 20th Century, my mom got all her information from her father and uncles at family gatherings, but I'm sure there were also many stories lost to time and generations passing.

In recent years family members have done much research and solicited professional help to confirm details and find information on our Dalrymple lineage. I ended up with a manuscript of family charts that date back to to the year 1022. To my surprise, the names my mom gave me when I was young were correct and in the charts, including the Kings she mentioned: Robert De Bruce, Robert I, and Robert II.

I am happy to join Clan Dalrymple, as many of the ones I've known in my lifetime were solid characters, full of life, and with plenty of stories. Let me know if you may share common Dalrymple lineage or know of any books or websites that my relate to some of these characters...thanks!
