Hello, Nicole! I am Houston on my mother's side. She was a Houston before she married. My sister-in-law has been tracing our family tree for many years, but cannot get any further back (without documentation) than my 3 times great grandfather Joseph Houston. We are from Catawba and Iredell Counties in North Carolina. I managed to get some information from the Iredell Co. Library of records and the supposed story of our family. It states that my ancestors fled religious persecution from Scotland in the 1600's to Ireland. Then in 1735, some of them left Ireland, came here and settled in Pennsylvania. Then 3 of Joseph's children left and settled in North Carolina. I don't have documented proof of that. It was typed out like a story. I don't know where else to look. My sister-in-law has been very thorough. Maybe you have some ideas? And if you're Scots-Irish, are you still Scottish?
