Need to have a question answered. My name is Gill and I believe we belong to the MacDonald Clan. What do you think my original Scottish surname would have been?

Most of our books say that Gill is Connected to Clan Donald but also MacGill obviously. The surname was common in Aberdeenshire but seems to have originated in Cumberland / England. It is a very old name though.
