A model of what the castle would have looked like - in Dunoon Museum
-
The Castle dates from the 13th century and became a Royal Castle in the 14th century with Campbell of Argyll as it's keeper. Mary Queen of Scots visited the castle in 1563 accompanied by John Knox and other notables. Much of the fabric of the castle was dimantled by Lord Provost Ewing to build a wall around his property - the Castle House (now the museum) and it's gardens.
