Lamonts

by | on April 13, 2013
  • A reckless Lamont. From Inverary Jail. It says: Farm servant, aged 22, from Islay, was convicted of 'Furious Riding and Injury to the Person' and sentenced by Cockburn on September 4th 1840 to two months imprisonment here. Four months earlier he and a friend had galloped their horses 'most furiously' up the Portaskaig to Bridgend Road. They knocked down a widow Ann Ferguson, who fell between the two horses. She was still confined to her bed when questioned ten days later 'her whole body is bruised and a number of cuts and wounds are about her head, face and mouth.'
