A New Take on Robert Burns

Robert Burns by Peter Howson

Robert Burns in literature was a lonely, unhealthy, complicated, romantic and earthy genius but in art he has always been shown as biscuit tin boring. The standard Burns image is flat and lifeless, all the dirt and passion sterilized out, he is the youthful dandy, the icon of the nation.

Art works inspired by Burns will be shown at The Mitchell Library, Glasgow. Featuring artists like Peter Howson, Tracey Emin, Calum Colvin, Jake and Dinos Chapman as well as many others.

The artist's take on Burns and his work will I imagine attract a lot of discussion, but I for one am looking forward to seeing what they come up with. So we can move on from these horrible old dusty versions of Burns and replace them with new images.
