Gordon Castle Highland Games
The 2013 Gordon Castle Highland Games and Country Fair will take place on Sunday May 19th in 2013. Plans are well under way for more events – see draft programme, enhanced food and drink outlets and lots of shopping opportunities. Free parking will again be available and discounted tickets can be purchased on line shortly. A new family ticket which covers a couple and three/four children will be available for the first time at the special price of £20.
New for 2013 is the setting up of two arenas – linked by a shopping “mall” so that all the events and activities can be enjoyed in a more leisurely fashion. The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Gordon Setter Club of Scotland in 2013 will be celebrated here at Gordon Castle with a host of events culminating in a grand parade.
Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon, The Cock o’ The North, is credited with establishing the breed we now know as the Gordon Setter. His home, Gordon Castle was where he established his kennel of black and tan setters. They were bred to work and the best dog was the one that could achieve that. It was not till later that appearance started to count. His dogs were either black, white and tan, black and white or black and tan.
