Year Of Ancient Ancestors Festival 2014

As part of Homecoming 2014, Caithness Horizons hosts the Year of Ancient Ancestors Festival.

The Year of Ancient Ancestors Festival will showcase a particular aspect of the Pictish and Norse heritage of Caithness. The festival will take place in May, July and October 2014 and focus on the following themes: Pictish Caithness (15th May - 19th May 2014) Viking Caithness (5th July - 13th July 2014) Vetrarblot Festival (24th October - 25th October 2014).

To coincide with Museums Galleries Scotland's nationwide Festival of Museums events weekend in May our programme of Pictish themed activities will including Pictish crafts, food and storytelling.

In July we will focus on the Viking culture of Caithness. There will be a Pictish and Viking battle re-enactment and a Viking Trading Post that will showcase how the Vikings lived.

In October Caithness Horizons will host a Viking Vetrarblot Feast at which Viking food and drink will be served. The feast will include entertainment by 'Viking' musicians and storytellers.
