The Kirking of the Council is the oldest event in the annual calendar of events staged in Inverness and is always full of colour and pageantry.
Our 2014 Kirking Parade will be led by competitors in the Masters World Championships and massed pipes and drums. The Kirking parade will start at 10.30am and include uniformed youth groups, veterans from the Royal British Legion, the Armed Forces and Northern Constabulary to name but a few. Joining the Inverness Councillors in their red robes will representatives of the University of the Highlands and Islands in their purple and white trimmed black robes; and if ever there was an event staged in Inverness which offered photographers the chance to take some amazing photographs, this was it.
The parade will travel down to the Old High Kirk where the traditional service will be held for all the officials and organisations that give so much to the city. After the service the congregation will head to Northern Meeting Park for the conclusion of the Masters World Championships Highland Games.
