James Ogilvie (circa 1645)
James Ogilvie 2nd Earl of Ogilvie, was taken prisoner at Philiphaugh. He was imprisoned in St. Andrews Castle, while awaiting execution. On the eve of his execution he made a daring escape, disguised as his sister, who had been to visit him.

John Ogilvie (1597-1615)
Born in Banff, he was a Jesuit priest, who was hanged for his defence of the spiritual supremacy of the papacy. He was beatified in 1927 and canonised in 1976. He has the distinction of being the only officially recognised martyr in post-reformation Scotland.
