I am intending to come to the Isle of Bute in May 2015. I would like to see, learn and explore my Scottish roots. My DNA says that I am 90% plus UK and Ireland born and bred. The largest remainder is Western Europe. I have less than 1% anything else.
I have traced my paternal family back 8 generations and reached Isaac Ballentine who was born in either Scotland or Ireland but cannot find when or where he embarked to the U.S.
Hopefully, someone can give me some suggestions of what to see and do in Scotland. I have "Scotland the best" by Peter Irving and Fodor's "Travel Scotland." But, as we all know, these provide tremendous detail but not a "personal" perspective of what one might R-E-A-L-L-Y want to see-and-do. Suggestions will be appreciated.
