This is Theodore Napier. He was born in Melbourne, to Scottish parents, in 1845 and came to Scotland for the first time in 1859 to complete his high school education and study for a degree in civil engineering. He returned to Australia, for health reasons, in 1865, spending five years studying medicine. He maintained an interest, some might say obsession, in his parents' birthplace and was regularly to be seen around Melbourne wearing full highland dress. In 1891, he formed the Victorian Scottish Home Rule Association and in 1920, he gifted around 10 acres of the Strathmore area of Essendon, Victoria, to the local council on the condition it be kept free of buildings. This became known as Napier Park. He had this composite photograph produced in the late 19th century. It is made up of a photograph of Napier himself superimposed onto one of Culloden Moor.
