I am from the Clan Houston through my father's father, and Rev. Joseph Houston my 6th GG was the brother of John Houston, the original ancestor of Sam in North America. These two and another brother c...I am from the Clan Houston through my father's father, and Rev. Joseph Houston my 6th GG was the brother of John Houston, the original ancestor of Sam in North America. These two and another brother came from Antrim County (Northern) Ireland in the early 1720s, descended from Sir Patrick Houston of Renfrewshire. My ancestor was the first pastor of a Presbyterian church in Elk River, MD, from about 1724, which is still in operation as the Rock Church. He then became pastor of the Goodwill Church in Montgomery, NY, in the Hudson River Valley, where my father's family is from.
We are going on a tour of Scotland in Aug. 2023 starting in Glasgow, and I would be interested in finding out about what remains of castles or houses might be seen in the Renfrewshire area. (I am also descended from Clan MacGregor on my father's mother's side, but lineage much harder to trace.)
