Following the Battle of Culloden (1746) and with the English forces victorious over the Scottish highlanders, the MacTavish (Son of Thomas) Clan rushed to Anglicise their name to 'Thompson' or 'Thomson' to avoid the brutal persecution of highlanders by the English. As Jim Thompson explains in this Third Part of the video series, his ancestors, like many others, decided to flee to Northern Ireland.
